Jiri Hudler was absolutely useless for Florida vs the Islanders in the first round

@jimbro

Yeah it looks like his playoff production has been up and down all his career. One playoff, hes solid, the next he disappears.

This past playoffs was the first playoffs Hudler ever posted a negative RelCF%. He's a very good player. Wasn't a great fit in FLA IMO.

I'm not going to hold a six game sample against a player. It's just life that the pucks not going to fall for you some stretches and to Hudler it happened in the first round and his team didn't advance to give him a chance to rebound. How many times have good players done nothing in the playoffs because their teams didn't last long enough for them to bounce back. Guys like Crosby, Ovechkin, Backes, and now even the great Jonathan Toews is now guilty of this.

Hudlers not great by any stretch, but he's a pretty versatile 5 v 5 player who can have extremely good value at ~2.5 mil. The whole playoff hero vs. post season choker debate is overblown.

Hudler's playoff p/60 - 2.43
Hudler's regular season p/60 - 2.74

Crosby's playoff p/60 - 3.27
Crosby's regular season p/60 - 4.87

Exactly. It's harder to score in the playoffs. Most players scoring rates usually go down.

If Cullen doesn't sign and the Pens arnt comfortable with Sundqvist being full time, Vermette is being bought out by the Yotes ... Probably could be had on the cheap. I'd be totally fine with him as 4C.

Depends on what Vermette's salary range would be after the buyout. maybe he brings something more to the table than Cullen.

I think Vermette would still have gas in the tank as a 4C/maybe PKer but I wouldn't pay him more than what we gave Cullen: Vet min. If he wants more than that, pass. Even if we're not comfortable with Sundqvist as full time 4C, Fehr is more than capable in that role and we can surround him with more skilled wingers to compliment him. I actually like that idea a lot more than creating a Kuhnhackl-Sundqvist-Fehr line which would be anemic offensively. Go Wilson-Fehr-Kuhnhackl (listed as a RW almost everywhere so I'm assuming he can play that side), and have Sundqvist be the 13th forward.

Exactly. If he can be had for a 750k to a mill and the Pens dont have Cullen signed, I'd say go for it. Vermette is still one of the top FO guys in the league, that alone makes him valuable.

Really looked like Huds was playing through injury for most of the year. Tough situation as it was a contract year for him.

One of your fellow compatriots tried to claim at the deadline that it would be really dumb for the Pens not to trade Matt Murray for Hudler and Russell. Those were good times.

The only one that would be useful to the Pens would be Hudler, the charm of Rust and the other little guy, i think his name was Sheary??? in the top six is going to wear off fast next season. Hudler can get better money elsewhere though.

Don't need dmen especially the Wiz. I'd rather Brandon Pirri, he's a left wing, still young, and can finish. Could be like another James Neal on Malkins line. I think we are looking pretty good roster wise. Have basically the same roster that won the Stanley Cup, all we lost was the worst player on the team, boo hoo. But a pipe dream would obviously be getting Pirri and Vesey. Talk about fire power.

Improbable to repeat in the cap era, but dammit did we give ourselves the best opportunity to do so. The only things we have to worry about are long term injuries to core players and the expansion draft. Not taking expansion into account, I have zero problem with this offseason.

What did you guys think of the Gagne signing by CBJ for only $0.650M? I never liked him but it was pretty cheap even to use him as a 13th forward or whatever.

Btw. I'd rather get Cullen back than Vermette. Cullen is a perfect fit for us. Vesey? I don't think he's comming. Hudler, Nice choice if we could get him for $1M.

Where does it say via hockeybuzz? I can't find it anywhere. Plus, their really crossing a line even if they've said that. They're selling it more as their own product. Plus, you can reference sources and pull info to support your own story, but can you lift entire articles. I don't think so.

Nevermind, found the place under the tags. But, I still don't think legal unless Ek or RW have an agreement in place.
